「数」の表現(a couple/a few/some/several/a lot of)

今回は「数」を表す表現をまとめていきます！

とりあえずここだけ覚えて！！

a couple

「2、3の」くらいの意味です。可算名詞の前に使えます。

a small number of things
LONGMAN

There are a couple of girls waiting for you.
「あなたを待っている女の子が2、3人もいます。」

You’ll be all right in a couple of days.
「2、3日もすれば大丈夫ですよ。」

ちょっとだけのイメージで「2から4の」くらいの意味です。可算名詞の前に使えます。

a small number of things or people
LONGMAN

I have to buy a few things at the supermarket.
「スーパーでちょっとしたものを買わなければならない。」

There are a few more things I’d like to discuss.
「あといくつか話したいことがあります。」

いくらかののイメージで「3から6の」くらいの意味です。可算名詞・不可算名詞の前に使えます。

a number of people or things, or an amount of something, when the exact number or amount is not stated
LONGMAN

I need some apples for this recipe.
「このレシピにはいくつかリンゴが必要です。」

They’re looking for someone with some experience.
「少しでも経験のある人を探しているようです。」

「多くも少なくもない」の意味で幅広い数に使われます。可算名詞の前に使えます。

a number of people or things that is more than a few, but not a lot
LONGMAN

Several people have volunteered to go.
「何人かの人がボランティアで行くことになりました。」

Several of her colleagues agreed with her decision.
「同僚の何人かは彼女の決断に同意した。」

「たくさんの」の意味です。可算名詞・不可算名詞の前に使えます。

a large amount or number
LONGMAN

I eat a lot of vegetables.
「私は野菜をたくさん食べます。」

There were lots of people at the party.
「パーティーにはたくさんの人が集まりました。」

何かが束になったり集まったりしていて「たくさんの」の意味です。可算名詞・不可算名詞の前に使えます。

a group of things that are fastened, held, or growing together
LONGMAN

I’ll send her a bunch of flowers.
「彼女に花束を贈る。」

He had a bunch of keys on his belt.
「彼はベルトにたくさんの鍵をつけていた。」
