「occupied/preoccupied」の違いとは？(埋まる/占められる)

こんにちは！yokoです。
今回は「occupied/preoccupied」の表現をまとめていきます！

とりあえずここだけ覚えて！！

occupied
物理的に「占領されている」

preoccupied
精神的に「気をとられている」

occupied

「占領されている」「ふさがっている」の意味です。物理的に埋まっているイメージです。

・a bed, chair, room etc that is occupied is being used
・busy doing something

Sorry, this seat is occupied.
「ごめん。この席は埋まっています。」

His time was occupied with the children.
「彼の時間は子供たちのために費やされた。」

1つのことを考えすぎて他のことが考えられなくなり「気をとられている」「頭がいっぱい」の意味です。精神的に埋まっているイメージです。
