「制限する/限定する」

limit

決められた基準値を超えることに関して「制限する」の意味です。

to stop an amount or number from increasing beyond a particular point
LONGMAN

Seating is limited to 500.
「座席数は500席限定です。」

I was told to limit the expense to $20.
「支出は20ドルまでと言われました。」

ルールによって行動をコントロールして「制限する」の意味です。

to limit or control the size, amount, or range of something
LONGMAN

The new law restricts the sale of hand guns.
「新法はハンドガンの販売を制限するものです。」

You may need to restrict access to certain files.
「特定のファイルへのアクセスを制限する必要があるかもしれません。」
