「ゴミ」はどのように英語で表現するのでしょうか？
そもそも日本語の「ゴミ」ってどこからきているのでしょうか？
カタカナで書くことが多いし、まさかの外来語？？と思って調べてみると、こちらのサイトに詳しく書いてありました。
平家物語にも出てくるようで、「護美箱」と書くようですね。。
「美を護（まも）る箱」ということで、純日本の言葉っぽいです(; ･`д･´)
前置きが長くなりましたが、今回は「ゴミ」の英語表現をまとめていきます！
trash
（アメリカ）一般的なゴミ
garbage
（アメリカ）お風呂場、キッチンから出るゴミ
rubbish
（イギリス）一般的になゴミ
refuse
本来の目的を終えて無価値になったゴミ
dust
ほこり

アメリカで使われる一般的な「ゴミ」というイメージです。

garbage
trashと同様にアメリカで使われる表現ですがお風呂場やキッチンから出る「ゴミ」感が強いというイメージです。

下記のサイトでtrashとgarbageの違いがまとめられていました。

イギリスで使われる一般的な「ゴミ」というイメージです。

refuse
本来の役目を終えて価値がなくなった「ゴミ」というイメージです。
また、refuseが動詞として使われると「拒否する」という意味になります。

dust
使わなくなったモノの上に被っている「ほこり」というイメージです。
日本語でゴミ箱をダストボックスと言いますが、そのイメージよりも狭い範囲のごみを表します。
