予定調整で使える「保留する」「確定する」の表現(put on hold/fix)

「予定を保留する。」「予定を確定する。」は英語で何と言うのでしょうか？
今回は「保留する」「確定する」の表現をまとめていきます！

「確定する」

保留する

もともとは誰かに何かを渡すのを断る意味で「保留する」を意味します。

to refuse to give someone something
LONGMAN

I withheld payment until they had completed the work.
「私は、彼らが仕事を完了するまで支払いを保留した。」

We will withhold a formal announcement until August.
「私たちは8月まで正式な発表を保留する。」

今ではなく後で決める意味で「保留する」を意味します。電話を「保留する」時によく使われます。

if something is on hold, it is going to be done or dealt with at a later date rather than now

I’ll put my schedule on hold.
「予定を仮置きしておきます。」

The company put investment in new products on hold.
「会社は新製品への投資を保留した。」

今後どうするかを決めると言う意味で「確定する」を意味します。

「まだ何も確定していない。」

We’ve settled the following schedule.
「次の予定を確定した。」

何かをする特定の日を決めると言う意味で「確定する」を意味します。

「すぐに予定を確定させないといけない。」

Have you fixed a date for the wedding yet?
「もう結婚式の日程決めた？」
