残念なお知らせの前に使える「言いにくいのですが」の表現まとめ

今回は「言いにくいのですが」の表現をまとめていきます！

「言いにくいのですが」

It’s hard to say

「hard to」で「～しにくい」となり、「言いにくいのですが」の表現になります。

difficult to do or understand
LONGMAN

It’s hard to say, but this campaign ended yesterday.
「言いにくいのですが、このキャンペーンは昨日で終わってしまったんです。」

It’s hard to say, but this credit card does not seem to be available at the moment.
「言いにくいのですが、このクレジットカードは現在使えないようです。」

直訳すると「こう言うのは嫌ですが」となり、「言いにくいですが」の表現です。

used to say that you are sorry that you have to ask etc
LONGMAN

I hate to say it, but your clothes stink.
「言いにくいのですが、あなたの服がくさいです。」

I hate to say it, but you have dust in your hair.
「言いにくいのですが、髪にほこりがついていますよ。」

直訳すると「～ということに後悔すると思います」となり、フォーマルに「言いにくいのですが」の表現になります。

used in official letters or statements when saying that you are sorry or sad about something

自分の望んでいた、想像していたこととは違う結果となり「残念ながら」「言いにくいのですが」の表現になります。

used when you are mentioning a fact that you wish was not true
