「自信がある」ってなんていうの？(confident/confidence)

今回は「自信がある」の表現をまとめていきます！

「自信をもって」
「確信をもって」

be confident

形容詞で「確信して」「自信をもって」のイメージです。

sure that something will happen in the way that you want or expect
LONGMAN

以下のパターンで使われます。

①be confident of (モノ/コト/ヒト)
「(モノ/コト/ヒト)を確信する/自信をもつ」

②be confidentthat節
「～ということを確信する/自信をもつ」

They were confident of victory.
「彼らは勝利を確信していた。」

We are confident next year’s profits will be higher.
「私たちは次の年の収入がもっと高くなることを確信している。」

「confidence」は名詞で「確信」「自信」のイメージです。また、「信用」「秘密」などの意味もあります。

以下のパターンで使われます。

①have confidence in (モノ/コト/ヒト)
「(モノ/コト/ヒト)に対する確信/自信がある」

②have confidence of (モノ/コト/ヒト)
「(モノ/コト/ヒト)に対する確信/自信がある」

I have complete confidence in his analysis.
「彼の分析に完ぺきな確信がある。」

We have confidence in our ability.
「私たちは自分たちの能力に自信を持っています。」

少し前に「コンフィデンスマンJP」という映画ありましたよね？これは「confidence man」からきています。confidence(信用)+man(人)で「信用させてだます人」＝「詐欺師」となります。
