「～とは対照的に/異なり」の表現(as opposed to/in contrast to)

今回は「～とは対照的に/異なり」の表現をまとめていきます！

in contrast to
「～とは対照的に/異なり」

as opposed to

2つのものを比較してそれらが違うことを示すイメージで「対照的に」の意味です。

used to compare two things and show that they are different from each other
LONGMAN

Students discuss ideas, as opposed to just copying from books.
「生徒たちは、本を見て真似をするのではなく、アイデアを出し合います。」

The tax system favors the very rich as opposed to ordinary working people.
「税制は、一般の勤労者よりも大金持ちに有利になっています。」

こちらも先ほどと同様に「対照的に」の意味です。

The stock lost 60 cents a share, in contrast to last year, when it gained 21 cents.
